Strategic Plan to Launch New Harm-Reduction Fund
A global philanthropy
2022-2023
New Tomorrow collaborated with a global philanthropy to develop a proposed strategy and grant-making portfolio to launch a new fund focused on reducing the harm of the US Foster Care system on BIPOC and LGBTQAI+ youth and families. Our support comprised of an analysis of needs and grant-making opportunities in multiple regions across movement building, advocacy, and direct-service spaces.
New Tomorrow advised on two inter-related areas: identifying where to invest philanthropic dollars, and on developing equitable and just grant-making practices.
We led a rigorous landscape analysis that involved a literature review, a legal and policy analysis, a comparative analysis of key government child welfare and foster care data, community-level economic data. And, we compiled learnings from over twenty key informant interviews with impacted individuals, movement leaders, advocates, legal and policy experts, and, public sector and philanthropic leaders working locally and nationally.
After synthesizing key trends from our research, we facilitated sense-making sessions with our client to narrow the geographic focus, issue areas and grant-making methods of choice.
Based upon these decisions, New Tomorrow developed a tableau-powered dynamic data resource, a theory of change and logic model, an impact assessment framework, an aligned list of prospective grantee partners, and an implementation/transition plan, and, multi-year phased budget scenario. Finally, we examined all aspects of the client’s grant-making process and identified opportunities to enhance their equitable and trust-based philanthropy practices.
